The firm handles Family, Civil, Estates, and Business Law matters and supports clients through negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and court proceedings. Our team is committed to providing clear, tailored advocacy and service from the beginning of a matter through to its conclusion. About the Role We are seeking a Legal Assistant / Law Clerk / Paralegal to join our team in a full-time, on-site role in Ottawa. The successful candidate will provide legal and administrative support and assist with the day-to-day management of client matters. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with counsel, become meaningfully involved in files from start to finish, and develop practical legal experience. Responsibilities include: Preparing, drafting, formatting, and organizing legal documents, correspondence, and court materials Maintaining and organizing electronic and physical client files Managing calendars, court dates, appointments, deadlines, mediations, and other important dates Communicating professionally with clients, opposing counsel, courts, experts, and third parties Assisting with the preparation and filing of family law and litigation materials Organizing financial disclosure, evidence, exhibits, and supporting documentation Conducting legal and factual research as required Scheduling meetings, mediations, arbitrations, and court appearances Monitoring files and following up on outstanding documents, correspondence, and deadlines Maintaining accurate records and ensuring documents are properly filed and organized Assisting with general administrative and office responsibilities Helping provide clients with responsive, professional, and considerate service throughout their matter Qualifications We are looking for someone who is organized, dependable, professional, and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a busy legal practice. Candidates should have: Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong organizational and time-management skills Strong attention to detail The ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines Strong Microsoft Word, Outlook, and general computer skills The ability to communicate professionally with clients and other legal professionals Good judgment and discretion when handling confidential and sensitive information The ability to work independently while also working collaboratively with the team A willingness to learn, take initiative, and take ownership of assigned work Education & Experience Previous experience working in family law, litigation, or a legal office is an asset, but we are also happy to consider motivated recent graduates. Applicants should have completed, or be completing, post-secondary education in one of the following areas: Law Clerk Studies Paralegal Studies Legal Assistant or Legal Administration Law or another related legal studies program Experience with Ontario family court procedures, DivorceMate, CaseLines, Justice Services Online, legal practice-management software, or electronic court filing systems would be considered an asset.
