Owing to our exponential growth, we are seeking to further build on the existing strength of our MT>Align team by recruiting a Director, Business Development and Operations.

As a Director, Business Development and Operations, you will be:

Business Development

  • Assisting the Partner & President, MT>Align to map out and implement strategic business development initiatives and new MT>Align solutions.
  • Scoping new clients and opportunities, preparing client proposals, recruiting candidates, and assisting with other business development efforts.
  • Maintaining an on-going relationship with Partners and Associates within the firm to scope new ‘embedded’ business opportunities.
  • Developing and maintaining strategic relationships in Canadian business communities.
  • Participating in networking events in regional business communities and other targeted business areas by ensuring that communication with potential high-level clients is maintained.
  • Targeting areas of organic growth, potential strategic associations and potential market acquisitions.
  • Capitalizing on the technical expertise of the MT>Align team to develop strong proposals in terms of written content, awards, presentations and contracts to develop new business.
  • Implementing strategic initiatives to develop and expand the business of MT>Align.
  • Working in a collaborative, cross-functional team spirit to create business opportunities for MT>Align.


  • Providing guidance and support to MT>Align legal operations as and when needed, including being involved in specific client engagements.
  • Liaising with Partner & President of MT>Align to make decisions for operational activities, policies and practices.
  • Reviewing and revising MT>Align standard agreements, processes, and procedures.
  • Supervise and mentor MT>Align lawyers assigned on certain mandates.
  • Provide support and guidance to new MT>Divisions ventures as and when needed.
  • Planning and monitoring the day-to-day business development operations of the division.

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • A law degree and good standing in any Canadian jurisdiction. Any combination of education or high level training certificates and experience deemed comparable will also be considered.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience, including relevant experience and a minimum of 5 years legal experience in a large law firm and/or in house.
  • Proven legal and business judgment with an orientation to finding creative solutions and possessing a consistent “can do” attitude.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to learn new technologies.
  • Desire and ability to work in a fast-paced environment, to meet stringent timelines, and to handle multiple demands simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels across the organization.
  • Solid understanding of how to do business in Canada and a general understanding of companies operating in the Canadian market and the changing trends in the socio-legal environment.
  • Business savvy to understand business risks and issues and the ability to recognize business opportunities.
  • A reputation of structure, discipline, organizational excellence, and proactivity in a constantly evolving environment.
  • Solid understanding of business financial drivers, and experience setting revenue and expense budgets and tracking actuals to budget.
  • Have proven experience in acquiring strategic mandates.
