Job Summary

Reporting to the Deputy City Solicitor, Municipal Law, the Legal Assistant will provide suppor to lawyers practicing in the areas of Municipal Law, Commerical Law and Construction Law.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Timely and accurate preparation of correspondence, memoranda, by-laws, corporate reports, agreements, and other legal documents varying in complexity
  • Managing calendars for legal counsel, including coordinating appointments and scheduling meetings
  • Handling incoming and outgoing correspondence and filing
  • Maintaining and updating a file tracking system and legal records
  • Communicating with all levels of the City and general public
  • Complying with relevant City policies
  • Providing ad hoc assistance on projects/initiatives within the unit/team
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Minimum 3-5 years as a legal assistant in a litigation practice within a law firm or in-house legal department post-secondary legal assistant or law clerk diploma (or equivalent education)
  • Professional demeanor and excellent interpersonal skills for communicating with client groups, lawyers and general public
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational and time management skills
  • Demonstrated computer literacy in programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Experience with legal document management software is an asset.


Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 53,780.00 - $ 71,709.00
