The Ministry of the Solicitor General, Ontario Provincial Police, and the Commander of North East Region are seeking a qualified individual to join our detachment. In this exciting, rewarding and challenging opportunity, you will to provide administrative, clerical and court support to Detachment personnel in the co-ordination and processing of administrative services.
Note: This posting is for a one (1) year temporary opportunity with the possibility of extension. Prior to submitting your letter of interest, please notify your manager of your intentions to apply to this competition. If a regular member is the successful candidate they would return to their home position at the conclusion of the temporary opportunity. Only business related expenses will be provided. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is one of North America's largest deployed police services with more than 5,800 uniformed officers, 2,400 civilian employees and 830 Auxiliary officers. North East Region spans from Moosonee Detachment in the north, Mattawa Detachment in the east, White River Detachment in the west to the West Parry Sound and Almaguin Highlands Detachments in the south, the North East Region of the OPP encompasses a geographical area (423,173 sq. kilometres). This is larger than several European countries. The North East Region includes the districts of Algoma, Sudbury, Cochrane, Timiskaming, Nipissing, Manitoulin and Parry Sound. OPP North East Region provides policing to over 190,000 permanent residents and to more than 400,000 people when including temporary/seasonal residents.
The South Porcupine Detachment is situated within the City of Timmins in the District of Cochrane and is responsible for policing a combined population of approximately 10,000 residents. The detachment's administrative center is located in South Porcupine with satellite locations in Black River-Matheson and Iroquois Falls.

What can I expect to do in this role?
To provide administrative, clerical and court support to Detachment personnel in the co-ordination and processing of administrative services.
How do I qualify?
• Ability to pass an OPP background/ security investigation.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of and skill in computer operation and software including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint to produce court documents, type correspondence, prepare presentations and produce financial/statistical reports.
Oral communication skills to clarify the nature of requests from callers, relay messages, and respond to enquiries by providing detailed information, in person and by phone to agencies, companies, court and legal personnel, police services, and the public.
Written communication skills to compose correspondence, prepare court documents, proofread a variety of documents, compile reports and summarize information.
Ability to select appropriate format/design for office documents including presentations, utilizing various software, which involves the selection of advanced features to manipulate data/information and shape appearance. Ability to make editing/proofreading changes to documents, reports, letters and memoranda.
Ability to exercise sensitivity, tact and diplomacy while greeting and responding to requests for information from individuals who are sometimes distraught, overly emotional or irate. Ability to work in a team environment.
Problem solving skills to identify and analyze the nature of enquiries or calls, some of which are confidential and/or sensitive in nature, gaining clarity of request, and determines how best to respond or whether to refer person to a uniformed officer or other personnel.
Problem-solving to check and verify a variety of reports, forms, and documents for accuracy; follow-up and correct where appropriate.
