The Team

The Corporate Communications department promotes the brand and protects the reputation of Norton Rose Fulbright Canada. The team supports employee communications and engagement, media relations and social media for the firm, working in alignment with its counterparts abroad its Marketing & Business Development and Digital & Design colleagues here in Canada.

Regardless of specific role, all members of the Communications department need to understand, anticipate and address considerations for a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively with their colleagues across the team.

The Corporate Communications Manager has people management responsibilities and reports to the Corporate Communications Director.

The Role

The Corporate Communications Manager's primary role is to develop and execute Norton Rose Fulbright's national media strategy and play a supporting role in broader firm communications. As a senior member of and leader on the Communications team, they must think critically and strategically; earn trust and exert influence; show excellent judgment; and navigate the organization effectively.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute firm's the media strategy, on a national scale and particularly in the Ontario/Toronto market
• Build and maintain relationships with national and local media
• Monitor media landscape and pitch proactively and opportunistically
• Respond to media inquiries, staff media interviews and act as spokesperson as required
• Manage and mentor more junior team members, and ensure their development
• Inspire leadership behaviours in others and demonstrate partnership across the Clients & Markets team
• Advise and support partners on building their external profile
• Manage the editorial calendar according to business priorities, working with the Senior Advisor
• Advise on reputational risk and play a strong supporting role on issues, incident and crisis management, working with the Director
• Advise on the firm's social media presence and contribute to social media content as required
• Ensure alignment between media and social media activities
• Establish communications discipline, good governance and best practices, working with the Director
• Establish and meet KPIs

Skills and Qualifications

• University diploma in relevant field
• Minimum of 10 years of media relations experience
• Experience in the banking / finance sector, or understanding of capital markets
• Experience working in a corporate or professional services environment
• Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
• Strong track record in media relations and experience with issues/incident/crisis management
• Strong relationship builder, with a positive mindset
• Critical, strategic thinker and able to grasp complex material
• Self-starter and problem-solver
• People management experience or aptitude
• Excellent judgment and grace under pressure
• Some internal communications experience
• Bilingualism preferred, or experience in Quebec market
