The legal project management analyst is a business intelligence and analytics role with a focus on legal project management, providing strategic legal project management-related insights and reporting to stakeholders throughout the firm. This role will be heavily involved in delivering exceptional staffing and legal matter analytics and reporting, including developing legal matter dashboards/data visualisations. The position requires an independent thinker with mature professional judgment, data analysis expertise, and a good knowledge of the technical tools used by the firm.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Support members of the legal project management team nationally in collecting, consolidating and mining data, and preparing reports, presentations and analyses. Participate in the ongoing matter management performance analyses, on a periodic or as-needed basis and for special projects and mandates. Participate actively in preparing reports submitted to the various committees of the firm, including reports provided to members of the firm's management committee
  • Collaborate with the business planning & analysis, pricing, proposals and client portfolio management teams to provide accurate, timely, and informative client and matter reporting
  • Work closely with internal teams to provide them with analyses, reports and matter management information necessary and useful for decision making with the support of legal project managers. Stay abreast of their needs and communicate requirements to team members
  • Support strategies to improve matter management analyses, matter reports and matter management tools while recommending changes to the reporting system and reducing manual processes to a minimum
  • Ensure accuracy of information through understanding a variety of data sources
  • Assist the implementation of tools and report development projects to enhance operational effectiveness and efficiency
  • Support process improvement initiatives that increase client satisfaction and firm profitability.
  • Research, extract and manipulate legal project management data from all relevant sources to build predictive models, assess impact on key metrics and perform sensitivity analyses
  • Provide data summaries and trend analyses to inform recommendations
  • Analyze legal project management results to be translated into business knowledge for key stakeholders
  • Use appropriate judgment in dealing with issues and requests by demonstrating an ability to effectively prioritize work, balance resource requirements and support solutions
  • Internal client interaction, as required
  • Assist with special projects, as required

Qualifications and Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in a quantitative discipline (science, technology, engineering, economics, finance, analytics, data science)
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in related role
  • Ability to work under pressure with a high degree of autonomy
  • Excellent client service orientation
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently by using sound judgment, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Positive attitude and enthusiasm
  • Strong interpersonal skills and capability to work effectively in a matrix-type organization
  • Results-oriented with an ability to work under tight timelines
  • In-depth knowledge of Excel, SAP and/or Business Objects
  • Knowledge of Power BI, SharePoint, MS Office, MS Power Platform, Business Objects
  • An understanding of the principles of analytics or data science would be an asset
  • Provide technical knowledge and capabilities as team member and individual contributor
  • Ability to quickly learn third-party analytical and reporting programs
  • Communicate information in a clear, well-organized and professional manner
  • Provide personalized and quality service to meet the expectations of internal and external customers
  • Bilingual will be an asset (French/English)
