Norton Rose Fulbright Canada LLP is currently seeking a lawyer with excellent people skills to join our exceptional National People & Development team, as Legal Talent Assistant Director in our Toronto office. Reporting to the Ontario Legal Talent Director, this position will support the day to day management of the associate and law clerks program in the Toronto and Ottawa offices. More specifically, this role will:

  • Work with the Legal Talent team and practice group leaders to run the day to day operations and administration of the Associate and Law Clerks Program in Toronto and Ottawa
  • Be responsible for onboarding, career development and engagement initiatives and take an active role in associate attraction and recruitment
  • Support work allocation and file staffing to help meet client needs and ensure that associates receive access to a broad range of file work/experiences, development and stretch assignments
  • Lead and facilitate various aspects of the performance management process, including communications with mentors, practice group leaders, associates, and any other feedback contributors
  • Facilitate and maintain formal, informal and virtual mentorship programs
  • Support Toronto and Ottawa office D&I initiatives, including those that advance our race equity strategy, Women In Norton Rose Fulbright initiatives and our various Employee Resource Groups
  • Be an active participant in the Toronto and Ottawa Associates' Liaison Committees
  • Act as a go-to for associates and clerks on a range of career development and engagement matters, including helping to support virtual working, workload management and on-going dialogue and feedback
  • Work with the other People & Development Directors on a range of strategic talent management initiatives and daily operations

Skills and Experience Required

  • JD/LLB or Bachelor's Degree in human resources, education, business, commerce, or related discipline, with a minimum 2017 year of call
  • An understanding of and interest in the business of the legal industry
  • Strong communication (verbal and written) - concise, persuasive, diplomatic
  • Exceptional people skills and team spirit
  • Strong facility with technology
  • Ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with students, lawyers, peers and members of business services
  • Strong project management and prioritization skills
  • Flexible, with the ability to adapt to change
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Results-oriented analytical and problem solving skills
