The team

The marketing and business development senior advisor for the Toronto office reports to the marketing and business development associate director and is part of the Canadian marketing and business development team.

The role

With a focus on supporting business growth specifically within the Toronto market, this role will work directly with the partners to develop marketing and business development plans and budgets for the Toronto office; the national corporate, Tax and M&A teams; and will also support larger-scale initiatives for the Ontario market. This position will be responsible for designing and delivering creative marketing and business development initiatives outlined in the plans, and will work closely with colleagues locally, nationally and globally.

Responsibilities

Toronto office

  • Support the development and deployment of integrated marketing and business development campaigns, initiatives and sponsorships
  • Develop creative marketing initiatives that will increase our visibility and brand recognition and expand the firm's client base
  • Manage relationships with various associations and ensure strategic participation in conferences and events
  • Provide direction, input and support to Toronto associates with various business development opportunities
  • Seek thought leadership opportunities within the local market, leveraging Canadian and global content
  • Track and follow up firm marketing and business development leads (ensure process adherence and KPI reporting for campaigns and initiatives)
  • Utilize established campaign development and management tools
  • May be called upon to create credential pieces or provide proposal support

National corporate practices

  • Support practice areas under the national business law group including M&A, Tax and corporate law with national and cross-border marketing and BD initiatives
  • Participate in regional, national and global meetings and prepare presentations and materials where needed
  • Work with partner leads to manage and support monthly/quarterly national meetings
  • Develop the national marketing and business development plan for M&A
  • Assist in coordinating, writing, editing and proofreading directory and award submissions
  • Lead and execute marketing campaigns, sponsorships and related events for the national teams
  • Populate all related campaign process tools, including campaign briefs, critical paths, KPI reporting and program budgets
  • Work with knowledge management and communication teams in developing and promoting thought leadership pieces, blogs and newsletters
  • May be called upon to create brochures, credential pieces or provide proposal support
  • Contribute to website updates and social media promotion for the teams
  • Lead directory submissions for assigned practice areas and seek to build profile through rankings and recognition

Skills and qualifications

  • University diploma and/or post-secondary studies in business administration and/or communications
  • Possess 6-8 years of relevant experience in a professional services environment
  • Exhibit strong knowledge of, and interest in, the professional services industry and business-to- business marketing and a deep understanding of the Toronto market and economy
  • Digitally savvy and conversant with digital marketing, news media and social media strategies and tactics
  • Ability to develop, manage and implement effective marketing plans, communications, thought leadership, branding, client service planning, and go-to-market strategies
  • Experience in creating and executing integrated brand building and lead generation initiatives
  • Ability to manage multiple, disparate projects through to completion, interacting with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Strong project management skills and attention to detail
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • A self-starter who is able to work with little day-to-day supervision
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with high-level internal clients and with colleagues of all levels in different locations
  • Experience working with matrix organizations an asset
  • Business-to-business marketing experience is required
