The Role

The Senior Data Analyst is a business intelligence and analytics expert, providing strategic insight and management reporting to stakeholders throughout the firm. This 18 month contract role will be heavily involved in delivering exceptional client reporting, ad-hoc financial reporting, and developing dashboards/data visualisations.

Responsibilities:

  • Support senior members of the Business Planning and Analytics team nationally in the collection, consolidation and mining of data, preparation of reports, presentations and analyses. Participate in the ongoing profitability and performance analyses, on a periodic or as-needed basis and for special projects and mandates. Participate actively in preparing reports submitted to the various committees of the firm, including reports provided to members of the firm's Executive Committee
  • Collaborate with the Legal Practice Management team to provide accurate, timely, and informative Client and Matter reporting
  • Work closely with internal support staff to provide them with analyses, reports and financial information necessary and useful for decision making with the support of Business Planning and Analysis Managers. Stay abreast of their needs and communicate requirements to senior team members
  • Contribute to developing strategies to improve financial analyses, financial reports and management tools while recommending changes to the reporting system and reducing manual processes to a minimum
  • Ensure accuracy of information through understanding a variety of data sources.
  • Assist in the definition, identification, management and implementation of tools and report development projects to enhance operational effectiveness and efficiency
  • Researching, extracting and manipulation of financial data from all relevant sources to build financial models, assess impact on key metrics and perform sensitivity analyses
  • Prepare recommendations based on data summaries and trend analyses,
  • Review and analyze month end results and translate into business knowledge for key stakeholders by providing clear and concise commentary
  • Use appropriate judgement in dealing with issues and request by demonstrating an ability to effectively prioritize work, balance resource requirements and determine solutions.
  • Assist with the Planning cycle through supporting business units in developing their Budgets

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree or diploma in a quantitative discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, Economics, Finance, Analytics, Data Science)
  • 3-5 years of experience in a similar position
  • Ability to work under pressure with a high degree of autonomy
  • Excellent client service orientation
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently by using sound judgement, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Results-oriented with an ability to work under tight timelines
  • In-depth knowledge of Excel, SAP and/or Business Objects
  • Knowledge of data visualisation tools (Tableau and Power BI)

Additional Skills:

  • An understanding of the principles of analytics or data science would be an asset
  • Provide technical knowledge and capabilities as team member and individual contributor
  • Ability to quickly learn third party analytical and reporting programs
  • Communicate information in a clear, well organized and professional manner
  • Provide personalized and quality service to meet the expectations of internal and external customers
