About Us:

Cricket Energy Holdings Inc. is a leading Energy Services Company in the Greater Toronto Area specializing in multi-residential facilities. We are currently recruiting for a Corporate Paralegal to support corporate governance, growth and client relations by providing expert advice and assistance to the executive team on a wide array of issues pertaining to the organization and the industry in which it operates. The Corporate Paralegal will report to the Chief Operating Officer.

Location and Hours:

Our office is located at 20 Floral Parkway in Concord, Ontario and our regular hours are 8:30 am to 5:00pm.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal services to the organization while ensuring compliance to applicable legislation and undertaking risk management.
  • Draft, revise, negotiate and manage sales contracts through collaboration with external legal counsel and clients
  • Draft amend and review corporate documents including articles of incorporation, director/shareholder resolutions, non-disclosure agreements, supply agreements, corporate communications, advertising, press releases, marketing materials and other applicable legal and non-legal documents.
  • Provide legal review, interpretation and advice and counsel for the various aspects of the organization's operations as required.
  • Investigate facts surrounding contracts and deals to determine next steps in contract negotiations, due diligence and resolution.
  • Provide representation as required at Small Claims Court and other judicial proceedings as applicable
  • Act as the Company's Privacy Officer and ensure all policies and documentation are fully compliant under applicable legislation such as the Consumer Protection Act, PIPEDA and CASL.
  • Keep abreast of changes in applicable legislation pertaining to industry and employment, providing report as necessary.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare reports and presentations as requested.
  • Field all legal and compliance inquiries from key stakeholders.
  • Address and identify internal areas of concern, endeavouring to provide resolution so as to not progress to a legal matter.
  • Liaise regularly with department heads, various stakeholders and outside counsel to ensure operational compliance.
  • Liaise with external partners to renew or extend contracts
  • Other related duties as required

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary education with a valid paralegal license with the Law Society of Ontario.
  • 7+ years of experience as a paralegal including experience within a law firm.
  • Prior experience with corporate representation in Small Claims Court.
  • Strong knowledge of legal concepts, principles and terminology.
  • Knowledge of the Consumer Protection Act, the Condominium Act, Courts of Justice Act, PIPEDA and CASL legislation.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Strong understanding of legal reference materials, procedures and legal filing systems
  • Strong ability to review and apply legislation relevant to the business
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Strong research and reporting skills
  • Strong ethics and ability to manage sensitive/confidential information with tact and discretion
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with superb writing skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Good problem solving skills and the ability to make the necessary decisions to move forward the work at hand and work independently
  • High level of critical and logical thinking and/or reasoning to identify underlying issues or facts.
  • Able to work well under pressure and meet set deadlines.
  • Good organizational, time management and prioritizing skills.
  • Use of a vehicle and ability to travel offsite occasionally.
