Duties and responsibilities

  • Responsible for all legal maters relating to Operations Group, including:  Contracting and legal matters relating to vessel acquisitions and dispositions;  Legal matters relating to vessel and crew management and contracting;  Legal maters relating to procurement and procurement contracting;  Legal lead on technical and operational projects;  Vessel flagging and registrations;
  • Project manager for vessel acquisitions and dispositions;
  • Legal counsel, advisor and support to Global Technical Services;
  • Legal counsel, advisor and support to Technical Operations and Vessel Management;
  • Legal counsel, advisor and support to Human Resources and Communications;
  • Legal counsel, advisor and support to Procurement and Information Technology;
  • Manager of Company intellectual property portfolio and intellectual property strategy;
  • Support to the Chief Legal and Compliance Officer and Commercial Pillar in all legal matters relating to vessels and vessel operations;
  • Assistance on commercial projects and matters, where required.

Qualification and skills

  • Law degree from a recognised law faculty at a Canadian university;
  • Member of the Barreau du Quebec or equivalent certification;

  • High degree of proficiency in MS Office programs including Word, PowerPoint and Excel;

  • 12-15 years of legal experience in commercial and corporate law with a major law firm or corporation;

  • Ability to lead complex international transactions and to lead teams of legal and business professionals;

  • Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to prioritize, manage and execute strategic goals as well as to ensure the timely execution of punctual matters;

  • Results oriented, with strong legal capabilities, problem-solving skills and attention to detail;

  • Superlative knowledge of the principles of maritime law;

  • Exceptional drafting and negotiating skills;

  • Strong customer service orientation;

  • Highly ethical and accountable and able to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints;

  • Strong management skills, discretion and sound judgment;

  • Ability to adapt to different cultural environments;

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in both English and French (written and oral).
