The Paralegal role is responsible for providing paralegal support including organization, maintenance and management of electronic and paper records; management of deadlines and reminders; contract administration support; directed legal research; general intake of legal matters; maintenance and management of legal databases;support for corporate secretarial & related records; and provision of legal support to internal stakeholders.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Organize and maintain contractual and litigation documents in paper and/or electronic filing systems; 
  • Develop and implement systems for litigation and contractual file organization, tracking contractual and litigation deadlines, and reminders, including maintaining limitation period schedules;
  • Develop templates and standardized documents for the Legal Department for correspondence, reminders, and calendars;
  • Support business units and the Legal Department by being involved in different various corporate and commercial matters such as commercial transactions, business development, and litigation support;
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, including outside counsel, on matters such as real-estate and trademark registrations;
  • Assist with the preparation, amendment, execution, and maintenance of correspondence, corporate documents and records, contracts and other documentation; examining legal instruments and other documents to ensure completeness and accuracy;
  • Assist Legal Department members when asked to participate in special projects or the creation of tools to enable process improvements;
  • Participate in the implementation of a company-wide document retention program in collaboration with the Corporate Compliance team;
  • Registration and maintenance of intellectual property registrations;
  • Investigate the facts of a case;
  • Conduct research on relevant laws, regulations, and legal articles;
  • Gather, organize, and maintain evidence and other legal documents for lawyer review and case preparation;
  • Provide professional and timely responses to internal clients and customers;
  • Drafting legal documents for litigation;
  • Reviewing and proofreading documents and correspondence to ensure compliance with legal requirements;
  • Initial interviews with all clients to ensure lawyer has basic facts and documents to understand the issues in the matter; and
  • Follow up with clients to obtain necessary materials. 

Education and Training :

  • Paralegal training from a recognized Training Institution

Experience :

  • 5 to 7 years of experience as a paralegal with a minimum of 2 years litigation experience

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities :

  • Bilingual (English & French ; oral and written)
  • Possess sound business and legal judgment
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders and guide decision making
  • Effective coordination supervisory skills with the ability to oversee projects delegated to outside counsel
  • Willingness to be flexible and adaptive, with the ability to operate and be an effective leader in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Manage issues in a manner that protects the best interests of the company, as well as the company's integrity, reputation, assets, officers, and employees, while ensuring the company operates in compliance with applicable laws and regulations
  • Maintain the highest standards of ethics and professional integrity
  • Ability to manage a large portfolio and variety of claims and projects
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with executives and employees at all levels within the organization
  • Exhibit initiative and assertiveness including the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel
