About the branch:
The Professional and Corporate Affairsbranch is located in the Regulatory and Consumer Services division in the Department of Community Services. The branch is responsible for administering a variety of legislation in three areas of focus: health professions, business professions and corporate and society registers.
Each unit is responsible for registration/licensing requirements, quality assurance, policy development and maintenance, inquiries, supporting the complaint process, and supporting any legislative projects. The work is varied and incredibly important for protecting the public, by ensuring they have access to competent professionals and legal business entities.
Business professions include but are not limited to insurance intermediaries, real estate agents and charitable gaming. Health professions include but are not limited to physicians, dental professions, physiotherapists and optometrists. Finally, the corporate services unit supports the registration of businesses, partnerships, corporations and societies.
About the job:
The Professional and Corporate Affairs branch (PCA) is looking for a highly motivated and experienced professional to join the team as a Policy Officer. Reporting to the Manager, Health Professions, you will work both independently and collaboratively with stakeholders to provide advice and analysis on numerous pieces of legislation and research (including health databases) impacting health professions’ registrations, standards of practice, and policies. You will also support the development of options papers, letters, legal opinion requests, templates, divisional processes, and various reports, while also assisting in the preparation of caseworks, legislative returns, information notes, decision notes and management board/cabinet submissions. You will be responsible for providing advice on policy and standard development, legislative changes and regulatory frameworks that impact the governance of health professions.
You will be expected to participate in national meetings of regulators by profession, maintain an understanding of trends and practices in regulation, proactively engage in stakeholder communications, identify and draft policy papers for the administration of the legislation and ensure that public information is kept current.
As a Policy Officer, you will be expected to use your exceptional communication skills and ability to speak proficiently on regulatory matters when educating the public and as a Yukon representative at an inter-jurisdictional level.

Essential Qualifications

- Degree and/or post-secondary diploma in Public Administration, Political Science, Business Administration, Law, Insurance or a related field
- Experience conducting research, analyzing data, and communicating complex ideas in writing and orally
- Experience leading multiple complex, multi-stage projects
- Experience providing well-reasoned recommendations to decision-makers
- Experience developing policies, directives, and/or guidelines
Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the above qualifications may be equally considered
Desired Knowledge, Skills and Suitability

- Ability to draft decision making documents and develop policy using clear language

- Experience with managing websites and online communications would be an asset
- Experience with developing, analyzing, and maintaining health databases
- Degree in Health-related discipline, and/or experience in provincial/territorial health regulation would be considered an asset
