Police Officer

The Town of Woodstock invites applications for a police officer position within the Police Department.

Our Police Department

The Woodstock Police Department strives to protect persons and property by providing necessary law enforcement services while promoting community involvement, stability, and order through service, assistance, and visibility. It works to build collaborative community relationships and to ensure comprehensive and responsive community-oriented policing initiatives. The department recently achieved reaccreditation from the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission (VLEPSC), which assures that police functions are conducted consistently, transparently, and to the highest standards.

The Position

The police officer position is responsible for maintaining the safety and good order of the community by enforcing the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia and the ordinances of the Town of Woodstock. Duties include patrolling assigned areas of Town, responding to emergency and non-emergency calls for service, directing traffic, checking residential and commercial properties for security, participating in community-oriented policing projects and crime prevention activities, investigating criminal activity, serving warrants, providing court testimony, preparing reports, and attending periodic training sessions. This position works under the supervision of a police lieutenant and a police sergeant.

Candidates should possess the ability to deal effectively with juveniles and adults; analyze evidence, question, and interview skillfully; organize and prepare clear and concise oral and written reports; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, school officials, students, parents, and the public.

About Town of Woodstock

Executive Offices
51-200

Town of Woodstock is a town in Shenandoah County in the state of Virginia in the United States. It is the county seat and has a population of nearly 6,000. Woodstock boasts a historic, charming, safe and bustling downtown, and it is also the center for retail, professional services, healthcare, and dining for the surrounding area.

Woodstock attracts a mixture of young families and retirees due to its close proximity to Washington D.C. and other Northern Virginia communities. And while many individuals still commute to Northern Virginia for employment, Woodstock has experienced increasing interest from young professionals, noting the friendly, small-town environment, recreational amenities in the area, and diverse housing stock.

The quality of life Woodstock offers surpasses that of any town of comparable size and includes festivals, concerts, children’s activities and events, and a quality park system. The North Fork of the Shenandoah River runs on the east side of Woodstock, along with Seven Bends State Park, and Shenandoah National Park, and the George Washington National Forrest surrounds the quaint town. There are also numerous wineries and breweries, local artisans from potters to quilters, caverns, trails and scenic byways, kayaking, swimming, fishing, skiing, snowboarding, “pick your own” farms, farmer’s markets, plant and tree retail centers and nurseries, historic battlefields, corn mazes, geocaching, hot air balloon rides, and much more!

The Town of Woodstock operates under the council-manager form of government and has six members of council and a mayor, all of whom are elected for four year terms. Offices are located at 135 North Main Street, in Woodstock, Virginia, USA.
