About the role
A boutique family law firm based in Oakville with 9 lawyers and a total team of 17. We pride ourselves on being organized, professional, and compassionate while helping clients through some of the most difficult times in their lives. We are looking for an experienced law clerk to join our team.
Role Summary
You will be joining our current team of four law clerks, supporting and providing assistance to the lawyers on client files. Our office is a collaborative environment where we work together to assist one another - while you will be assigned to specific files, our law clerks work together often to ensure that work is completed in a timely manner and to support one another while on vacations or if work needs to be redistributed.
Your key responsibilities include but not limited to the following:
Maintaining file organization, receiving, saving and organizing correspondence and documents Preparing court documents for service and filing at all levels of the proceeding including Continuing Records, Endorsement Records, Financial Statements, Briefs, Document Disclosure, Motion Materials, and Trial Materials Experience in preparing Financial Statements, support calculations, Net Family Property Statements and compiling financial disclosure briefs Experience in preparing Uncontested Divorces Willingness and ability to correspond with clients, opposing counsel/parties, the courts, mediators and others as required Knowledge and ability to arrange personal service of court documents, as required Excellent writing and communication skills
Qualifications for the position, including but not limited to the following:
At least 3 years experience in Family Law in Ontario Excellent verbal and written communication skills Experience with DivorceMate, Microsoft Teams, Webex, CLIO, OneDrive, Office 365 and other communication programs are an asset Good judgment, an ability to think critically and strong interpersonal skills Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and be innovative in support of strategic business goals such as client satisfaction and revenue targets Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion Ability to handle large volume of different files in an organized, efficient, and accurate manner Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with the public, staff, and lawyers Ability to plan, organize and manage work independently with minimal supervision
