Choice in Health Clinic Board Call for Members

Choice in Health Clinic (CIHC) provides access to abortion and reproductive services. As a non-profit and charity with a community-based Board, CIHC is an advocate for reproductive justice and providing safe, high quality, comprehensive abortion services. For more about CIHC visit: www.choiceinhealth.ca.

CIHC is looking for a new Board member who are committed to reproductive justice and abortion access in Ontario. The Board meets 8 times a year, with a monthly commitment of up to 4 hours. Meetings are primarily virtual, but you may be asked to participate in in-person meetings in Toronto. Board packages are sent electronically (in English) in advance of meetings. A term is a 3-year commitment, with the possibility of a second term.

If you have a commitment to pro-choice philosophy and equity, please consider applying. Experience in one or more of the following areas would be considered an asset:

• Community health or community-based healthcare • Sexual and reproductive health • Abortion care or abortion access • Reproductive justice, human rights or health equity • Advocacy, public policy or government relations • Non-profit or charitable-sector governance • Community engagement, fundraising or communications

CIHC is committed to equity, diversity, inclusion, anti-racism, and anti-oppression, and to building an organization that reflects the communities we serve. We welcome applicants who bring relevant knowledge, skills, or lived and professional experience in areas such as communications, disability rights, healthcare, and community advocacy.

We particularly encourage applications from Indigenous, Black, and other racialized people; Two-Spirit, non binary, trans, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and queer people; people with disabilities; youth; and members of other equity-seeking communities.

Accommodations are available upon request throughout the interview process and for all aspects of Board participation. Applicants should be aware that the clinic’s internal doors are not currently equipped with automatic door openers. We welcome the opportunity to discuss individual accessibility needs and available accommodations.

To apply, please send a letter (no more than 2 pages) outlining your experience, philosophy on abortion and reproductive justice and reasons for applying to the CIHC Board to info@choiceinhealth.ca with the subject: "Board of Directors application".

We will be reviewing applications on a rolling basis until the position is filled.

About Choice in Health Clinic

Hospitals and Health Care
11-50 employees

Driven by the desire to increase access and abolish shame, CIHC recognizes that abortion is not merely permissible under the law, but essential, important, positive, and powerful. We first opened our doors in 1988 and are now a licensed and fully funded, non-profit clinic with a community-based board of directors. We receive our funding from the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and we are regulated as an Out-of-Hospital Premises by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. We are also a member of the National Abortion Federation (NAF) and adhere to their standards for abortion care.
