The Role
Our client is seeking an experienced Real Estate Law Clerk to join its Real Estate Practice Group. The successful candidate will support a busy real estate practice with a mix of residential real estate, commercial lending, leasing, title matters, occupancy closings, final closings, and related transaction work.
Responsibilities
Liaise with lawyers for purchasers, clients, and their respective staff Draft correspondence and documentation required to support real estate transactions Request information from clients relating to occupancy documentation and final closings Prepare interim and final statements of adjustments and send them to clients for review and approval Receive and review documentation and funds required to complete occupancy and final closings Prepare reports relating to occupancy and final closings Prepare invoices relating to sales transactions Prepare cheque requisitions, invoices, correspondence, and related documentation for the disbursement of closing proceeds to lenders and clients Prepare partial and complete discharges of security registered against title and post same in line with closing undertakings Prepare documentation and letters relating to commercial real estate lending, including electronic registration documentation Prepare electronic registration documentation for leasing matters Conduct and review title searches, municipal inquiries, and other off-title investigations Communicate with title insurers and review and comment on draft title insurance policies Prepare client reports and related closing documentation Support other real estate matters and duties as required
Qualifications
5+ years of real estate law clerk experience in a law firm Law Clerk designation Strong knowledge of residential real estate purchases, sales, and mortgages Solid understanding of real estate law, industry practices, and the mechanics of real estate transactions Knowledge of title insurance Strong knowledge of commercial lending documents Experience drafting ancillary leasing documentation, including non-disturbance agreements and notices of lease Extensive Teraview experience Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to manage tight deadlines, multiple files, and a high volume of paperwork Strong communication skills when dealing with lawyers, staff, clients, title insurers, lenders, and external service providers Ability to work independently while maintaining strong working relationships in a team-based environment
