About the Role:
As a Senior Family Law & Civil Litigation Law Clerk, you will play an integral role in our litigation team. You will work closely with our lawyers while independently managing files, communicating with clients, preparing court materials, and ensuring matters progress efficiently from commencement through resolution. We are looking for someone who is proactive, highly organized, detail-oriented, and committed to delivering exceptional client service.
Qualifications:
Minimum three (3) years' experience as a Law Clerk in Ontario, with experience in Family Law and/or Civil Litigation. Strong knowledge of the Family Law Rules, Rules of Civil Procedure, court forms, and Ontario court filing procedures. Experience preparing pleadings, Applications, Answers, Motions, Affidavits, Financial Statements, Case Conference Briefs, Settlement Conference Briefs, Trial Management Conference Briefs, Trial Records, and other court materials. Experience managing files independently from opening through resolution. Excellent drafting, organizational, and time-management skills. Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal practice management software (experience with Clio is considered an asset). Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team environment.
Responsibilities:
Drafting pleadings, court documents, legal correspondence, and litigation materials. Preparing and filing court documents, including electronic filings through the Ontario Courts portal. Managing Family Law and Civil Litigation files from opening to closing. Maintaining court deadlines, limitation periods, calendars, and diarization systems. Communicating professionally with clients, opposing counsel, court staff, experts, and third parties. Assisting lawyers with litigation preparation, discoveries, mediations, conferences, and trial preparation. Scheduling client meetings, court appearances, and lawyer calendars. Managing incoming telephone calls and email correspondence. Greeting clients and visitors in a professional and courteous manner. Providing reception coverage and administrative support when required. Assisting with trust and general banking administration in accordance with firm policies and procedures. Performing other related duties as assigned.
