About Appropriate Housing Matters Inc. We are a not-for-profit social enterprise committed to retaining and growing affordable, socially responsible, and appropriate homes in our region.
We deliver, with pride, a variety of housing options where people want to live, that are well-maintained, well-run, and safe. We raise the standard of what is considered "affordable" and ensure that our tenants and residents live in appropriate housing.

Mission To provide safe, appropriate and well-managed homes, providing expertise and services while delivering growth in the affordable & social housing market.
Board Responsibilities The Board leads Appropriate Housing Matters in fulfilling its mission and deepening Appropriate Housing Matter's impact in the community by setting strategy and generating the resources to achieve that strategy.
It is the overall responsibility of the Board to ensure that Appropriate Housing Matters meets its obligations on an ongoing basis and operates reliably and safely by: • Working within the various current legislations, articles of incorporation, and by-laws. • Participating in the democratic structure of the Non-Profit Organization (including • Creating, discussing, and voting on proposals and assisting in policy-forming). • Exercising all the Board powers that can be legally exercised between General meetings and Board of Director meetings; and, • Working within budgets approved by the Board
Time Commitment 6 in-person meetings per year; virtual meetings anticipated 6 per year—approximately one board meeting per month.

Board Directors who are active with the Appropriate Housing Matters Inc. Board for a minimum of 10 calendar months within a fiscal year and have participated in no less than 90% of meetings scheduled are entitled to an honorarium benefit. Travel and accommodation costs will also be reimbursed/covered by the organization.

About Appropriate Housing Matters Inc.
We are a non profit social enterprise committed to retaining and growing affordable, socially responsible and appropriate homes in our region. Founded in 1972 as a by-product of Co-op Atlantic’s social initiatives, our organization has been recognized under the names of our various brands - Appropriate Housing Matters Inc., APHL, APHL services, People’s Park Tower, etc.
Since 2016, we have moved from various housing industry pieces into the region's most comprehensive and complete non-profit service provider for organizations that deliver housing “at cost.” We took orphaned housing organizations and created Appropriate Housing Matters Inc. to be the overarching company that provides provisional governance for all the various housing organizations, and re-positioned and refinanced properties to create sustainable and valuable positions in the market. We then transitioned provisional governance to community volunteers who have become instrumental in creating and directing the vision and mission Appropriate Housing Matters Inc.
Now, after 50 years of parallel existence, the various housing organizations have combined to form Appropriate Housing Matters Inc. Appropriate Housing Matters Inc. raises the standard of what is defined as “affordable” and delivers, with pride, a variety of housing options that are maintained, well run, safe, and most importantly, appropriate for the residents that call them home.
