About the role

Head of Compliance (AML & Safeguarding) Monitiva — Toronto, ON (Hybrid) · Full-time

About the role Monitiva is building cross-border payments infrastructure on the Canada–Mexico corridor (Europe next). We are a FINTRAC-registered MSB and a Bank of Canada-registered Payment Service Provider under the RPAA, safeguarding end-user funds in trust with a sponsor bank. Compliance isn't a support function here — it's our core differentiator.

We're looking for a hands-on Head of Compliance to own our entire financial-crime and safeguarding program end-to-end. This is a builder's role: on day one there is no team beneath you. You will design, draft, and stand up the program yourself, and grow into Group Head of Compliance as we activate Mexico, Latam and Europe.

What you'll own Act as our designated Compliance Officer under the PCMLTFA (FINTRAC): risk assessment, KYC/CDD/EDD, sanctions/PEP screening, transaction monitoring, and reporting (STRs, EFTRs). Own our RPAA / safeguarding-of-end-user-funds framework end-to-end — the highest-risk, most critical area of our operation. Build and own the full policy suite (risk scoring, TM rules, STR procedure, CDD manual, sanctions, retention). Be the credible compliance interface to our sponsor bank and to FINTRAC examinations. Define and calibrate the rules of our in-house transaction-monitoring engine, working alongside our tech team; configure KYC/KYB (Sumsub) and safeguarding logic in our core banking platform.

What we're looking for 7–12 years in financial-crime compliance, ideally as a designated Compliance Officer / AMLRO in payments, fintech, or an MSB. Demonstrable experience building or owning a client-funds safeguarding framework — under Canada's RPAA, or transferable from mature regimes (UK/FCA under PSRs/EMRs, or EU payment/e-money institutions). This is our primary filter. Strong FINTRAC/PCMLTFA program ownership; experience with regulatory exams and sponsor-bank due diligence. A true player-coach who is comfortable doing the fine drafting personally, not just delegating. CAMS or CFCS certification. English required; Spanish is a strong asset (Canada–Mexico corridor).

Compensation Base salary CAD $150,000–$210,000 per year, commensurate with safeguarding/RPAA depth, plus performance bonus. Toronto-based, hybrid; remote within Ontario considered.

About Monitiva

Investment Banking
11-50 employees
Founded in 2024

Monitiva is a global financial network that connects local banking systems across countries. We give people and businesses real access to domestic payment systems like SPEI in Mexico, EFT in Canada, and SEPA in Europe.

We are not a digital bank or a remittance app. We are the infrastructure that makes them work together. Our federated model connects regulated banks in each country, enabling users to send, receive, and manage money across borders with real local access. With Monitiva, you can operate like a local wherever you are. That means having a real account, using local payment rails, and avoiding the usual barriers of international banking.

We launched in the Mexico–Canada corridor and are expanding steadily. By 2030, Monitiva will be the financial network linking the Americas and Europe.

Bank local. Live global.
