About the role

Role Description This full-time, on-site Cross Border Tech Compliance Advisor role is located in Whitchurch-Stouffville, ON. The advisor will support compliance activities related to cross-border nuclear and radiation technologies, ensuring adherence to Slovenian, Canadian, and international regulatory frameworks. Daily tasks include reviewing and interpreting relevant legislation, standards, and international agreements, preparing compliance guidance and documentation, and monitoring technology transfers and data flows for regulatory risk. The role involves coordinating with internal experts, foreign counterparts, and international bodies, contributing to inspections and audits, and assisting in the preparation of reports and briefings for senior leadership. The advisor will also help maintain international data exchange processes and support emergency preparedness activities from a regulatory and technical compliance perspective. Qualifications Strong expertise in nuclear or radiation safety regulation, international nuclear law, or related compliance frameworks. Demonstrated experience with cross-border regulatory issues, export controls, non-proliferation, or technology transfer compliance. Advanced skills in legal and technical research, analysis of regulations and standards, and preparation of clear compliance documentation. Ability to collaborate effectively with governmental bodies, international organizations, and multidisciplinary technical teams. Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English; knowledge of Slovenian or other languages used in international nuclear fora is an asset. Bachelor’s or master’s degree in law, international relations, nuclear engineering, physics, public policy, or a related field. Proven attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information responsibly. Experience with emergency preparedness, risk assessment, or inspection support in a regulated technical environment is beneficial.

Uprava Republike Slovenije za jedrsko varnost je organ v sestavi Ministrstva za naravne vire in prostor. Na upravi opravljamo strokovne, upravne, nadzorne in razvojne naloge na področjih sevalne in jedrske varnosti, izvajanja sevalne dejavnosti in dejavnosti uporabe virov ionizirajočih sevanj (razen v zdravstvu ali veterinarstvu), varstva okolja pred ionizirajočimi sevanji, fizičnega varovanja jedrskih snovi in objektov, neširjenja jedrskega orožja ter varovanja jedrskega blaga. Na navedenih področjih opravljamo naloge inšpekcijskega nadzora, ob radioloških ali jedrskih izrednih dogodkih pa sodelujemo s Štabom Civilne zaščite Republike Slovenije pri določanju zaščitnih ukrepov za prebivalstvo in obveščanju. Izpolnjujemo tudi mednarodne obveznosti in opravljamo naloge mednarodne izmenjave podatkov.

The Slovenian Nuclear Safety Administration is a body within the Ministry of Natural Resources and Spatial Planning. The Administration performs professional, administrative, supervisory and development tasks in the areas of radiation and nuclear safety, radiation practices and the use of radiation sources (except in healthcare or veterinary medicine), protection of the environment against ionising radiation, physical protection of nuclear material and facilities, non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, and protection of nuclear goods. It undertakes inspections in these areas, and in the event of a radiological or nuclear emergency it cooperates with the Civil Protection Headquarters of the Republic of Slovenia in determining protective measures for the population and providing public information. It also fulfils international obligations and performs tasks of international data exchange.
