About the Position

The summer student will be responsible for providing administrative support to the Legal Department, which supports various Ministry Units across the Canada and Bermuda Territory. The summer student will gain practical experience in clerical duties, data entry, and data analysis in the legal context.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide administrative support to the Legal Department
  • Enters and verifies information or data in existing formats or databases.
  • Maintain documentation and filing and other administration duties as required.
  • Performs various office/clerical duties (e.g. photocopy and distribute materials as requested)
  • Arranging for documents to be signed, including witness for signatures. .
  • Assisting in the processing of files, including review of older files for purging,
  • Send and receive fax or email as requested.
  • Perform any other related duties as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Preference will be given to students in the social service, nonprofit management or related field attending an accredited college/university.
  • Have a basic understanding of social services programs within the territory.
  • Have a basic understanding about governance, finance, human resources, proposal development and policy development.

PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and IBM Lotus Notes
  • Able to operate basic office equipment (telephone system, photocopier, etc.)
  • Good communication and organizational skills
  • Proven ability to exercise high level of confidentiality.
  • Good interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Able to work within the mission statement of The Salvation Army
  • Must be able to take direction and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Must be sensitive to the confidential nature of matters that are dealt with in Legal Department.
  • Requires tact and effective communication skills.

Canada Summer Jobs: To be eligible, students must:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
  • have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and,
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

Hours - This is a full-time temporary position: 30 hours/week for 9 weeks.

Hourly rate between $16.55 - $19.46
