This position can be based out of Quebec City. McCarthy Tétrault employees benefit from a hybrid work environment.


As an Intermediat Paralegal, you will be:

  • Preparing, drafting and reviewing (or supervising these tasks) transfers of properties and mortgages (acquisitions, sales and financings, drafting of servitudes and leasing of various types of commercial property as well as various land development files), reports and legal opinions.
  • Coordinating, drafting, reviewing, examining and summarizing (or supervising these tasks) titles to real property and other types of off-title searches in real property matters, as well as drafting, preparing and reviewing reports and opinions in support of the purchase of title insurance policies.
  • Organizing the filing and submission of necessary documents for the registration of personal property with the Personal and Movable Real Rights Registry Office and, to this end, attesting to the identity and capacity of the signatories of these documents, as well as to the compliance with the required format.
  • Interacting with clients and other legal advisors, as circumstances may require.
  • Providing independent professional support services, including assistance with complex transactions.
  • Staying up to date regarding legislative amendments and notarial practices, while informing the other team members of important changes, as required.
  • Performing other assigned tasks within the Real Property & Planning Group.

As our ideal candidate, you will distinguish yourself by the following profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree in law and a master's degree in notarial law or a notarial law diploma;
  • Member of the Chambre des notaires du Québec
  • Minimum of 8 to 10 years of relevant experience, particularly with respect to real estate title examinations and commercial transactions.
  • Strong communication (written and oral) skills in French and English.
  • Ability and willingness to keep abreast of changes to legislation and notarial practices.
  • Ability to read and summarize complex documents.
  • Demonstrated commitment to attention to details.
  • Proven ability to manage numerous priorities at once, work under pressure and respect deadlines.
  • Proven ability to demonstrate initiative and sound judgement, make decisions and efficiently accept responsibilities.
  • Ability to interact with lawyers and clients with confidence and competency.
