The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Clerk of the Supreme Court, the Court Services Counter Clerk works within the Whitehorse Court Registry and supports the operation of the Yukon courts. This position:

  • processes and files legal documents in accordance with court rules, forms, practice directions and applicable legislation;
  • provides legal information and assistance to court users with respect to civil court procedures;
  • prepares and maintains court records and files;
  • handles requests for transcripts and court audio recordings; and
  • accepts fees, fines and other payments into court.

The incumbent handles a high volume of sensitive and confidential information and is expected to meet high standards of tact, confidentiality, and sound judgment.

The friendly and cohesive front counter team is looking for a professional individual who is a team player as well as detail-oriented, organized, and self-motivated. A significant amount of the incumbent's time will be spent helping members of the public navigate complex court forms and processes.

Essential Qualifications:

Please submit your resume clearly illustrating how you meet each of the following qualifications - specifically, how your work experiences and related duties align with the essential qualifications listed below. Note that selection for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume.

  • Successful completion of post-secondary program in Secretarial, Business, Office or Legal Administration, or other related field.
  • Experience performing senior administrative functions (preferably in a legal environment)
  • Experience researching and interpreting and applying legislation.
  • Experience working with the Yukon Rules of Court and knowledge of the Yukon justice system is an asset.
  • Proficiency in French language will be considered an asset.

Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above will be considered.

Additional Information

Conditions of Employment: The incumbent must become a Notary Public within 6 months of hire.

Relocation: Relocation costs will not be considered for this position.
